"They" say you should only eat 300 extra calories a day while pregnant

Whoever came up with this guideline has clearly never been pregnant.

Recommended daily calories for a pregnant woman is 2,500 (300 more than 2,200 which is recommended for an average non-pregnant woman). Yesterday, I had 3,276. That is 1,076 calories more than recommended. Oh well.

Here's my menu from yesterday:
Breakfast: 2 slices of toast with butter

Mid morning snack: yogurt

Lunch: 2 pieces of bread with butter, shrimp tempura roll (6 pieces), grilled salmon, white rice

Mid afternoon snack: Giant Cookie from Starbucks
Dinner: Japanese curry over rice and salad (2 helpings)
Dessert: slice of lemon cake
In-between: about 10 pieces of gobstopper (not included in my caloric intake estimate)

Not included in my caloric estimate: salad dressing, butter, and any other condiments which would throw my calories way over what I want it to be

Q & A

Here are answers to a couple of questions that we've been asked repeatedly the past couple months.

Question # 1- "Were you trying?"
Maybe its just me, but this question is creepy. I think it's because "trying" literally means having sex. Clearly other people don't see it this way. Because everyone from family to friends to complete strangers ask it. I know it's completly innocent and they just think that they are asking "Were you trying?" but to me it sounds like "Were you and you wife intentionally having unprotected sex 4 months ago?"

I have never asked this question. I never will.

Answer # 1 - (awkward silence) ...yes.

Question #2 - "Are you going to find out?"
This question has become so common that it has developed in to short form. What I've learned it means is "Are you going to find out the gender of the baby prior to its birth?" So, it's like "whatevs" and "omg".

Answer # 2 - Totally.

It's worse than muffin top

I think I need to accept that I will no longer fit into my skinny jeans or skirts comfortably. For the past 2 days, I haven't zipped up my skirt and/or pants. It's worse than a muffin top because I can't even zip it up to create the muffin top effect. I think I still have room for my fat jeans. At least I hope so.

Goal # 3 - Shave from time to time

to be honest, I have no intention of shaving routinely, I just wanted to post this photo of my bitching mustache.

Goal #2 - For god's sake, have a respectable utensil drawer

Clearly this is unacceptable. No child of mine is going to have father who can't separate his forks from his knives. We might as well have a drawer full of sporks.

Goals

As we mentioned in our "about this blog" section, having a baby is going to be a drastic change to our lifestyle. That is why we will posting posting many goals that we want to accomplish by the time we become parents. For example, we currently live in a 500 square foot 1 br apartment and though we have lived here for over two years, many of our pictures are still on the floor waiting to be hung. That, in our opinion, needs to change before we bring a baby into this world. Moving to a bigger place that invites picture hanging on the wall is one of our many goals. Not moving to the suburbs is another.

2nd trimester

It's official, mama has entered the second trimester. We are now free to blog and share our joy on the information super highway.
